IBCSG 25-02 / BIG 3-02 : TEXT - Tamoxifen and Exemestane Trial

Trial Status:Open to patient entry

Treatment type:Hormone

Stage of Disease:Early

Intent of Treatment:Anticancer

Title:

A phase III trial evaluating the role of exemestane plus GnRH analogue as adjuvant therapy for premenopausal women with endocrine responsive breast cancer.

Summary:

Chemotherapy, hormone tablets, and turning off the ovaries all reduce the risk of breast cancer coming back in young women with early breast cancer with positive hormone receptors. But it is unclear whether all three are necessary and how best to combine them. This international randomised trial will determine if exemestane or tamoxifen is the better hormone tablet for women already having treatment to turn off their ovaries. In this trial the doctor and patient may decide whether or not to include chemotherapy as part of the patient’s treatment.
